Where to check traffic fines, vignette and parking in Bulgaria
This page does not check anything itself and sends nothing anywhere. It tidies your plate number and opens the official services, which do the checking.
Driving in Varna in a car from abroad? Bulgaria has no single place to look up every fine by plate. Below is each official service, what it checks and what it asks for. Type your plate once to copy it in Latin and Cyrillic letters.
Your plate
Type it as printed, e.g. В 1234 АВ. Spaces, hyphens and dots are removed. Varna plates start with B (Cyrillic В).

Cyrillic letters
Official forms differ. If one variant is not found, try the other.
Without JavaScript the plate helper is off: type your plate on each official site exactly as printed.

Unpaid fines sent for collection (NRA)
If a traffic police fine is not paid within the voluntary payment period, the Interior Ministry’s system sends it automatically to the National Revenue Agency (NRA, НАП), and a public enforcement agent can then collect it.
To see whether a fine has been passed on, use the NRA e-service “Справка за задълженията” or visit an NRA office. If you paid but the fine still shows there, contact KAT and the NRA information line 0700 18 700 with the type, number and date of the document.

What if I have a fine?
Pay with the details the MVR result or the ticket gives you (amount, IBAN and payment reason), by bank transfer or online banking. Keep the receipt.
Drivers who are not Bulgarian citizens and do not live in Bulgaria must pay on the spot, by bank card only; refusing can lead to the registration certificate and plates being taken for up to 3 months. Reported on 9 Nov 2025 by Logos Press
Some fines are reduced if paid within 14 days of being served; check the exact discount on the MVR result, which shows a discounted amount.
In the first month of average-speed control, 13,775 of the 33,288 recorded violators had foreign plates (BNR, 3 Nov 2025).
Background (2020 report): In 2020 the Interior Ministry began checking drivers and passengers for unpaid fines at the Kalotina border crossing and planned eight more crossings (Sofia Globe, 10 Jun 2020); we could not confirm which crossings do this in 2026.
If your car is registered in another EU country, fines for road-safety offences can be sent to your home country under Directive (EU) 2015/413 (Your Europe, checked 23 Dec 2025). Your Europe
Can I check Bulgarian fines with only my plate number?
No. The Ministry of Interior portal searches by plate only together with a Bulgarian EGN or LNCH. Without one, search by the number of the electronic ticket or penal decree. BG TOLL checks the e-vignette by country and plate.
Does this page check my plate?
No. It only tidies the plate number in your browser and links to the official services. Nothing is sent or stored.
Should I type the plate in Latin or Cyrillic letters?
Official forms differ, and we could not confirm which form each one expects. If one variant is not found, try the other.
