As of October 2026 Lidl opens 07:30–21:30 (Sunday 08:00–21:00), most Kaufland hypermarkets 07:00–22:00 (Sunday from 08:00) and every Billa 07:30–22:00. Hours change around Christmas and New Year, so check the store finder before you go.

Hours are taken from each chain’s store finder (as of 2026-10). Lidl’s Bitolya 1A store stays open until 21:30 on Sundays. We could not confirm a Fantastico or T Market supermarket inside the city of Varna.
Are supermarkets open on Sundays?
Yes. All three big chains trade every Sunday. Lidl and most Kaufland stores open 30–60 minutes later than on weekdays, while Billa keeps its usual 07:30–22:00. Sources: Lidl, Kaufland, Billa.
What about Christmas and New Year?
24, 25 and 26 December and 1 January are public holidays. The chains announce holiday hours in December (last season between 19 and 23 December), so the holiday hours for 2026 were not yet known on 26 October 2026. Last season (2025/26):
- Lidl: 24 Dec 07:30–19:00, 25 Dec closed, 31 Dec 07:30–17:00, 1 Jan closed, 2 Jan from 10:00.
- Kaufland: 24 and 31 Dec 07:00–19:30 in Varna, 25 Dec and 1 Jan closed, 26 Dec from 08:00.
- Billa: 24 Dec 07:30–19:00, 25 Dec 10:00–19:00, 31 Dec 07:30–20:00, 1 Jan closed.
Plan the big shop for 23 December and 30 December. In 2026, 24–26 December falls Thursday to Saturday and Monday 28 December is a day off too; see Bulgaria public holidays 2027.
Is there a 24-hour shop?
None of the big chains is open round the clock. Some small neighbourhood supermarkets are; look for денонощно (denonoshtno, “day and night”) or “non-stop” on the door.
Where can I buy Asian and international food?
- Asian food Market, bul. Tsar Osvoboditel 41B: Asian sauces, noodles, rice and sushi supplies, open every day 10:00–19:30 (its website).
- Sokoni, ul. Panayot Volov 42: Indian, British, West African, Filipino, Korean and Chinese groceries (Visit Varna).
