Which taxi companies and apps work in Varna?

All four have their own iOS and Android app and a 24/7 phone line:

Company Main number Order by
Triumf Taxi 052 644 444 App, website, Viber
Hippo Taxi 052 344 444 App, website
Omega Taxi 052 38 88 88 App, phone
JoyTaxi 052 66 66 66 App (fixed price), phone

Each also has mobile numbers for different operators, listed on its website. Triumf is the official taxi partner of Varna Airport.

How much does a ride cost?

Triumf and Hippo publish the same tariff, set under Varna Municipal Council decision 560-2 of 30 April 2026 and applied from May 2026:

Day 06:00–22:00 Night 22:00–06:00
Per km €0.79 €0.89
Start fee €1.58 €1.78
Waiting, per minute €0.22 €0.27
Call-out €0.00 €0.00

JoyTaxi lists €0.79/km and a €1.58 start both day and night, and shows a fixed price in its app before you confirm. As a rough guide, a 5 km daytime ride works out at about €5.50 before any waiting time. Numbeo-based data on Combien coûte puts the average at €0.80/km, ranging from about €0.70 to €0.90 (updated 14 October 2026). Sources: JoyTaxi, Combien coûte.

What about the airport and Golden Sands?

At Varna Airport, use only the Triumf Taxi rank in front of Terminal 2. The airport’s estimates are about €11 to the centre, €19 to Sts. Constantine and Helena and €27 to Golden Sands; the meter decides. Bus 409 is the cheap alternative. For the full arrival picture see the Varna Airport guide.

Why is there no Uber or Bolt?

Uber and Bolt have no Varna city pages (both returned “not found” on 26 October 2026). Bolt’s page for Sofia lists only Bolt Food, e-bikes and scooters, which suggests Bolt rides are not offered in Bulgaria at the moment. In Varna, the local taxi apps fill that gap: you see the car, the driver and often an estimated price.

How do I avoid being overcharged?

  1. Order by app or phone rather than taking a car that waits outside clubs or beach hotels.
  2. Check the tariff sticker on the car window before you get in: compare the per-km price with the table above.
  3. Make sure the meter is on and set to the right tariff (night only from 22:00).
  4. Ask for a receipt at the end; licensed meters print one.
  5. Ask about card payment when ordering. JoyTaxi advertises card and phone payment; elsewhere keep small euro notes.

When is a taxi worth it?

For short hops in the centre, walking is often faster; see walking, cycling and taxis. In the daytime, buses are cheaper: see Varna buses and tickets. Taxis make most sense late at night, with luggage or in a group of three or four splitting the fare.
